iTunes Review

Mixing ska with hip-hop and rock might not seem like a good idea on paper, but the Huntington Beach, Calif.–based The Dirty Heads are adept at the combination. Their second album, Cabin by the Sea, begins with “Arrival," a summery acoustic serenade replete with seagull sounds in the background. The title track bounces with a mellow reggae groove before “Disguise” ushers in clouded rhymes over looped mariachi horns. A few notable musicians make guest appearances. Ky-Mani Marley (the only son of Bob Marley and ping-pong champion Anita Belnavis) is featured on the traditional-tinged “Your Love.” His slightly raspy inflections hauntingly recall his late father's. Rome from Sublime turns up in the funky rap-rocker “Mongo Push,” a catchy and danceable song that muses on the improper way to push down the street on a skateboard. Of course nobody can rhyme like hip-hop pioneer Del the Funky Homosapien, whose unmistakable lyrical attack blows “Smoke Rings” into the next level.

Love The Dirty Heads... Any Port In A Storm was sick! Dope rhymes, beats and a b/a feel to the music but I waited for this album and it's none of the above! Its all reggae sounding not that reggae is bad but this album... Pretty disappointing to be honest.

Talented Group!

I've been listening to these guys since 2008... And I can't get enough! Super pumped for the new album.... Really enjoying it so far! Nice hybrid of ska/reggae/hip hop

Worth the wait!!

I was waiting for the longest time with this album and it was definitely like the title says! These guys are the so talented!! Love every song on here!!

Following in the footsteps of their California brothers Sublime, Huntington Beach’s Dirty Heads mix hip-hop, reggae, and rock along with that laid-back, South Cali attitude. The group formed in 2003 when punk rocker Dustin Bushnell (aka Duddy B) asked his friend, rapper Jared Watson (aka Dirty J) to collaborate on a project that would focus on positive vibes and infectious grooves. Watson added singing to his vocal skills, and with percussionist Jon Olazabal joining, an acoustic-trio-version of Dirty...
