AMAZING & TIMELESS

I have been a fan of Crimson Glory since Transcendence, Painted Skys is so epic that even those first few guitar notes still ring beautifully in my mind to this day....but we're here to talk about "Strange and Beautiful" which is in my mind a far superior album. I know that it wasn't as well recieived since it was after all the end of the hair band era, but Crimson Glory completely changed direction on this album, I remember one specific reviewer back in 91/92 saying "The Led Zeppelin of the 90's", and that always stuck with me abou this album...and not just because of the psychadelic album cover...the sounds are definately more kindred to those of the 70's than the 80's or 90's. Midnight had such an amazing voice, I always wanted to see them do a re-union tour to hear these songs live, but sadly after Midnight's passing, that will never happen.
There are so many lyrics that as a songwriter I would hear and think...wow, I wish I had thought of that. Lyrics like "Even Angel's Need to Learn How to Fly" or "Something in her twisted smile sent shivers down my spine". There are so many lyrics that I love from this album that it is very hard to chooose, some romantic, some trippy and just plain thought provoking. This album has almost trance inducing music, I don't know that I've ever felt an album move me as deeply as this one does, from start to finish, regardless of the tempo changes or subject matter, something about every song just works together to take the listener on a journey. There are so many times over the years that I have listened to this album and closed my eyes, feeling as if I were actaully drifting along the waves of the music. I know to many the things that I'm saying are odd or crazy, but this album has become a solid and significant factor in my life, something that I would feel sad to live without. I may not listen to the album as often as I used to, but every time that I do....It feels just like the first day I heard it. This album has changed my life, and helped to define the style of music that I enjoy, Strange and Beautiful is an Eye Opening Album, Full of Raw Emotion, Moving Music and Amazingly Soulful Backups. The band may have been experimenting when they made this album, but I think that they captured the kind of magic that only happens once in your career...I wish that the whole world would have had the chance to hear these songs at the time of their release, the record company truly did Crimson Glory a sorry job of pushing the album to the masses...they were passed over for the more popular bands of the time, but I feel that if this would have been pushed harder, many of the songs would have been huge hits before the Grunge Era took over. Truly A Missed Opportunity for many unlucky rock n roll fans. I am so glad that I was not one of them, I stumbled upon this album because of my love for "Painted Skys" and I'm so glad that I picked up this album when it came out, this was the soundtrack to my teenage years...and every once in awhile, a great big smile while driving around town. If you are a fan of the 80's and 90's Metal....you Owe it to yourself to check out Strange & Beautiful from the one and only best kept secret of the 80's/90's Metal scene... "Crimson Glory"!!!

Don't know what they were thinking????

This CD is NOT a very good representation of the talent and amazing musicianship of Crimson Glory. Songs are all bad not a good one in the bunch. They attempted to go mainstream when they clearly should have stuck with what they know. If you want GREAT music by the first two cd's from this band and you will not be disappointed I PROMISE!

The progressive metal band Crimson Glory formed in Florida in 1982.
