Editors’ Notes

One of the world's most popular dancehall artists, Jamaica's Elephant Man has been a fixture on the scene for many years now, known and loved for his high-octane approach and party-starting anthems. On Dance & Sweep! - Adventures of the Energy God, he continues to do what he's best at, unleashing explosive music certain to move even the most lead-footed wallflowers. Hyperactively funky beats and rapid-fire rhymes abound, and despite a few excellent features (Bounty Killer on "How We Do It" and "Life of the Party," Kardinal Offishall on "Clear," Ding Dong on "Dip Again"), it's pretty much all Elephant Man's show. One listen and it's clear why he remains such a relevant star; nearly 20 years into his career, he's still putting out some of the most electrifying and instantly likeable club music made today. Don't miss the aptly titled "Party Up In Here," nationalistic pride jam "In Jamaica," and the mellower, romantic tune "Let Me Be the Man."

Shabba Ranks and Bounty Killer were Seaview residents at the time, and with King Jammy's studio not so far away, Elephant Man had an early exposure to dancehall culture. While singing at the gates of Ranks and Jammy's studios, Bounty Killer heard him and suggested forming a group with...
