One Man Dog

For 2 years I emailed iTunes and begged them to add Instrumental 2, so that the entire album could be bought for $9.99, but alas, until now, each song had to be purchased individually because only 17 of the songs were available on a "partial album". Thankfully, iTunes has added the 18th song, and now we can buy the entire album for $9.99. I find it unbelievable that the album is rated so poorly. Sure, it had only 1 big hit, but have none of the listeners paid attention to the "suite" of songs from Hymn through Jig"? I'm sorry, but this is as fun and beautiful as the suite of songs from the end of The Beatles "Abbey Road". This is bits of songs that just make you happy to be listening!

Sir

This is the best james Taylor album. Furthermore, it is the only James Taylor album that became a permanent part of my emotional memory, establishing itself as poignant and real during my college years. I sat alone and listened to to its sweet, soulful, imperfect, broken, sublime ideas and always felt a little bit better afterwards. Still sounds great, still has intersting twists that remain interesting because they were clearly real, with little parenthetical apologies - "Sorry this isn't another chartbuster, but it's what I've got". This album is genius, and if it is anything, it is a clear reminder of the myopia of the Billboard set, with their self-anointed wisdom, who generally could not tell their a*s from their elbow.

Love The Name

This is a nice album, and I've always like the song "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" Plus the best thing about this is I love the name of the album "One Man Dog" Hey as a lifelong dog owner and lover I sure can relate to that. This is why I've always felt that James is the man! as he is a kindred soul.

When people use the term "singer/songwriter" (often modified by the word "sensitive") in praise or in criticism, they're thinking of James Taylor. In the early '70s, when he appeared with his introspective songs, acoustic guitar, and calm, understated singing style, he mirrored a generation's emotional exhaustion after tumultuous times. Just as Bing Crosby's reassuring voice brought the country out of the Depression and through World War II, Taylor's eased the transition from '60s activism and its...
