iTunes Review

This is the deluxe version of Immortal, a remix album of Michael Jackson's music. It's considered the soundtrack to Cirque du Soleil's show Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour, which debuted in Montreal in 2011; it travels the world and has a specially tailored permanent showcase in Las Vegas. Producer Kevin Antunes (Justin Timberlake, Rihanna) redesigned Jackson's catalog to fit this new performance, with an alternate version of The Jackson 5's "ABC" settling inside "The Jackson 5 Medley" (which also includes "I Want You Back" and "The Love You Save"). Antunes respects the material, and while he mashes up the tunes into current styles, he's also well aware of the original songs' charms and leaves the hooks in there to do what Michael intended them to do. Everything from Michael's first No. 1 solo hit, "Ben" (with extra percussion, vocals, and orchestration to heighten the drama), to his post–Quincy Jones latter-day work is fair game for reinvention. Even Jackson's 1984 hit "State of Shock" with Mick Jagger gets an extra shot of rhythm and blues.

fantastic..

I'm waiting to see the actual show...Is it possible for this man to create a bad piece of music? - I personally don't think so...the man was a genius and a national treasure..

Amazing!!

This album is great! I wasn't expecting much from this because I don't care for remixes but these are done so nicely, and they don't take too much away from the original song. I love you Michael <3 LOVE LIVE MJ!

Pleased that they didn

I am not a long-term fan, I became one when he sadly passed-- and when that happened, my senses came into effect; this is the music that I've been longing for. These past two and a half years, I've been greatly educated on how music works, and what are the wonders behind music making.

'Michael' was a more of a today's pop. I did not like the auto-tuning (since I suppose Michael had a reason not using it) but overall it had a blend of old and new.

This album is suberb. People might complain, "Leave Michael's music untouched and unremixed." Eventually people would want to remix the greatest hits, and Michael is NO exception. I heard the samples to 'I Like the Way You Love Me,' and compared it to the published one, and obviously it was changed dramatically.

Michael's original songs have their genuine taste, but in this album, they just have a pinch of today's best musical touch and a dash of classical remixes.

These remixes are so great, you can walk up to a stranger, (or non-MJfan) and make them listen to these songs. They'd say, "Oh my Gosh! these are AWESOME." And you'd say, "Oh my gosh, these are totally not the original!" Those people will believe they are original--pure--and untouched songs. That's the best way I can describe this album.

Extremely pleased. Very pleased.

Michael Jackson wasn't merely the biggest pop star of his era, shaping the sound and style of the '70s and '80s; he was one of the defining stars of the 20th century, a musician who changed the contours of American culture. A preternaturally gifted singer and dancer, Jackson first rose to stardom in 1969 as the 11-year-old frontman for his family's band, the Jackson 5. As remarkable a run as the Jackson 5 had -- at the dawn of the '70s, each of their first four singles went to number one and they...
