Shakira’s roots-mining tenth album is a polished, sure-thing tapestry of reggae, Latin rhythms, anthemic rock, new wave, dance-pop, chill-down grooves, a dozen or so hit-making collaborators and an anomalous country duet (with Blake Shelton). Yet, what’s great, is the immensely talented, multilingual pop diva comes off sounding vulnerable (and real) at times. Against some old-school ska and industrial-strength choruses, she admits against better judgment that she’d do anything for her mistreating boy on “I Can’t Remember to Forget You” (with Rhianna). She’s an emotionally abused lover on the propulsive “Cut Me Deep” (featuring Magic!), a tune whose rhythms and horns recall late-’70s Two-Tone revivalists.
