Nevermen

Nevermen

Nevermen contains precisely the kind of eccentric moves one would expect from a collaboration between TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, experimental rapper Doseone, and veteran freak Mike Patton. Rap rock, punk funk, glitchy electronic—no idea is off limits. With its surreal lyrics and splattered electro bounce, “Shellshot” is pure Parliament-style hijinks. “Non Babylon” is a tantrum-throwing Frankenstein’s monster stitched together from scraps of avant-rock and reggae. But not every cut is in-your-face weird. “Fame II: The Wreckoning,” a choral swell blossoming into a meditation on desire, is subtle and uplifting.
