Customer Reviews

foi otimo!

This is a great album, the Brazilian feel mixed with Jazz is delightful. Jamie's vocals are beautiful as they slip between English and Portuguese with melodies that will haunt you (in a good way). Well done James, I love it!

Solid Debut Album

I say "solid debut album" because I hope this is not the only one. Jamie is a very talented singer/songwriter/pianist. The album is very well put together and shows off a good amount of versatility that Jamie has both in styles and languages! Vocally Jamie executes phrasing, pitch, and a tonality that is very well described as "Dark Honey" in the sense that it's rich, flowing, and it hits the spot. The highlights of her vocal tracks would be "Forever When We Kiss", "Dark Honey", "Dindi", and "Eu Nao Existo Sem Voce". As an instrumentalist Jamie has a fun upbeat style . . . with a sense of humor. I can see the imagery of laughing at how enthusiastic, or schizophrenic, a pet can be on "Come Play With Me, Through the Eyes of a Golden Retriever" and "Pasha's Tango" (which is inspired by her cat). Other instrumental highlights are "Flight of the Arbutus", and "I Love You". There really isn't much to improve on with this album. There are a couple of songs that are duplicated in different styles, languages, or are vocal and then instrumental. For my tastes I would have picked one song to duplicate in a different style for an album, and put other original songs or even standards (like "Summertime") to fill the rest of the album. There are a couple songs where the audio engineer boosted the high frequencies on Jamie's voice which in turn make "S" syllables sound harsh. However, this is no fault of Jamie's and if you adjust your EQ just a bit there should be no problem. Once again, I want to reiterate that this is an excellent album. This review is written by a fellow musician that is classically trained, played in numerous ensembles all around the world, and has a good ear. So take my word for it when I say this album is worth every penny. Great job Jamie!

Talent to leave you speechless

In the interest of full disclosure, I used to be Ms. Fletcher's classmate in graduate school. With that said, I can attest to how incredibly talented she is. The first track "Forever When We Kiss" gives you Brazilian rhythms mixed with jazz and a little bit of rap, a taste of how truly satisfying this album is. "Dark Honey" recalls a sensual tango, while "Dindi" brings a light funk vibe to the festivities. The fifth track, "Eu Nao Existo Sem Voce" showcases Jamie's vocal talent, as she is accompanied by just a guitar. The track after that will truly take you to Rio de Janeiro, as her prowess at the piano is on full display. The penultimate track, "Hope," is an exercise in sublime subtlety. This album belongs in every serious jazz fan's collection.
