iTunes Review

If the mix sounds even more boisterously radio-friendly than 2005's multi-platinum All The Right Reasons, that's because Nickelback hired Mutt Lange (most noted for his work with AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Bryan Adams) to co-produce Dark Horse. "Burn It To The Ground" is a heavy, post-grunge rocker with pounding rhythms, sinister lyrics, and serpentine melodies. And of course the band returns to the kinds of ballads that made All The Right Reasons so successful. The emotional "Gotta Be Somebody" would do well on a soundtrack to any one of those melodramatic television shows about attractive high school kids.

simply incredible

What do you get when you put the producer of such albums like AC/DC's "Back In Black" and Def Leppard's "Hysteria" and the thunderous rock n' roll melodies of Nickelback? You get what has to be one of the most diverse rock albums to be released in a long time. Following the massive success of "All the Right Reasons", most bands would simply make a carbon-copy and cash in. However, that is exactly what didn't do...they took the best elements from their previous album, and built upon them. Nickelback's "Dark Horse" kicks you in the gut right off the bat and you had better hold on for the ride throughout. This album gives a resounding middle-finger to their critics & nay-sayers by cranking up their unique sound; then bending and molding it into a true masterpiece in which each song has it's own memorable hook and sound. "Mutt" Lange is the perfect choice to produce this album, it is no wonder why Nickelback sought him out. From over-the-top, powerful, thunderous anthems like "Something In Your Mouth" and "Burn It To The Ground", to the radio-ready songs "I'll Come For You" and "Never Gonna Be Alone", and the driving tempos of "Next Go Round" and "S.E.X."...Nickelback simply brought it all out to the table on this album. "Dark Horse" has every sound you can think of from pure metal to country to classic rock to arena anthem power. After "All the Right Reasons", I didnt know what more Nickelback cound pull off, only to be proven wrong...this album makes most rock albums look weak and pathetic. What makes this album great is how Nickelback could take so many sounds, weave them so seamlessly within one another and still maintain their sound which may have tried to copy. Unlike most artists who put out albums annually with multiple producers and songwriters simply for the quick money. Nickelback, who wrote and co-produced every song, took their time and gave their greatest effort to date Dark Horse definetly has a more raw, adult and mature feel in its sounds & lyrics. There is plenty of the tounge-in-cheek sexual lyrics as well as the beautifully written ballads and melodies that only Nickelback can pull off. Chad Kroeger, one of the most best frontmen of all time, delivers feeling and passion in every single lyric he sings and note he plays. Guitarist Ryan Peake's sound is prevelant throughout every song, from distortion to the acoustic sounds, Ryan knows just how to nail that perfect sound. Bassist Mike Kroeger brings every sound together and keeps the groove going throughout every song with such ease. Last but not least is perhaps the best drummer in the world, Daniel Adair. He can go from simple beats to in-your-face double bass & crashing drums like a lightswitch. Nickelback and rock fans alike will be awarded for their patience with "Dark Horse", it is easily their most diverse, thunderous, rocking and dynamic album ever. Thank you Nickelback for making such great music for us, your fans. "Dark Horse" is THE rock album of this century so far. 1. "Something in your Mouth" 10/10 - A stripper-saluting rocker with a powerful sound and clever lyrics. A perfect way to kick off the album. 2. "Burn it to the Ground" 10/10 - A thunderous, arena anthem song about going out on the town and just tearing it up. Favorite song on the album 3. "Gotta Be Somebody" 9/10 - Their first single and a great radio-ready song about finding that special someone. Quintessential Nickelback 4. "I'll Come For You" 10/10 - Beautifully written love song about going to any length for his woman. Solid mid-tempo song and probable future single. 5. "Next Go Round" 10/10 - Fast, thundering, in-your-face rocker all about getting naughty. Fans of "Animals" will love this song. Very clever lyrics 6. "Just To Get High" 9/10 - A darker song telling the story of what drugs did to one of his friends. Powerful lyrics, driving rythyms and sound. 7. "Never Gonna Be Alone" 10/10 - The best slow song on Dark Horse. This song has "single" written all over it. Beautiful song for couples. 8. "Shakin' Hands" 10/10 - Tounge-in-cheeks lyrics about a successful prostitute. This song has Def Leppard-meets-country feel to it. Very enjoyable song. 9. "S.E.X." 9/10 - The driving beats and lyrics describing each letter of the word S.E.X. make this a very well written song. Absolutely incredible solo and drumming in the middle of the song. 10. "If Today Was Your Last Day" 10/10 - A radio-ready tune about what you might do if it was your last day to live. Great slow-building song 11. "This Afternoon" 10/10 - Perfect end to the album. Laughter and chatting is heard in the background of this jamming, summer song about just having fun with those around you

Grow Up

I agree, the album's the same as all the others. Immature lyrics about sex and nothing unique or better than before. However, this album in particular sound even more immature. It's like listening to an older, angrier Relient K.

I love this album. :) COME BACK NICKELBACK~

Formed: 1996 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Few bands did more than Nickelback to establish the force of slick, commercially minded post-grunge in the 2000s. Led by vocalist Chad Kroeger, the band initially emerged in the late '90s as Canada's answer to Creed, prizing a blend of gruff vocals and distorted (yet radio-friendly) guitars. After a handful of singles failed to gain much traction in Canada, "How You Remind Me" caught hold in 2001, eventually topping the charts in several countries while gathering four Grammy nominations and four...
