Go Buy the Originals.

This album is not worth your money. Go buy the originals (except for “Molossus”).

I love Hans Zimmer’s work. For example, “Like a Dog Chasing Cars” is a masterpiece, in my opinion. That said, don’t judge him by this.

The songs all fit into three categories: Computer generated, amateur level reproductions, and one original. The computer generated ones are “Davy Jones”, “He’s a Pirate”, “Corynorhinus”, and “The Last Samurai”. I personally cannot stand music done by computers that is supposed to sound like a real instrument. But if you like that sort of thing, then these songs are for you.

The amateur level reproductions sound a little like a high school musical group got ahold of a recording studio and had a field day. The performance and arrangement are as good as any of the original soundtracks. These songs are “Aggressive Expansion”, “Extraction Point”, “Time”, “A Dark Knight”, “Dream is Collapsing”, “Like a Dog Chasing Cars”, “Honor Him” (particularly bad), and “Myotis” (The worst song of this whole album).

I do not know well enough, so therefore can’t classify, “Epilogue” or “Why so Serious”.

This brings me to the last song on my list; “Molossus”. This is the only one worth buying. It is THE original soundtrack song; the real deal. At 60 cents cheaper, it’s a bargain.

Sorry for the length of my review. This album just got me all riled up.

[sidebar- “Myotis” is really out there in terms of quality. It is about 100 bpm slower than the original. All the others are just amateurish, this one is plain kooky and weird!]
