iTunes Review

Christina Perri was a 23-year-old waitress with fledgling musical ambitions playing a second priority while she worked in a Beverly Hills café to pay the bills. There she met the choreographer of So You Think You Can Dance? who featured her piano ballad “Jar of Hearts” on the popular television reality show. Over the next two weeks her song was downloaded over 100,000 times, catching the interest of Atlantic Records who signed Perri and released The Ocean Way Sessions EP. Recorded at Ocean Way Studios in L.A., “Bang Bang Bang” opens blending bouncy piano-pop with hints of Broadway musical pizzazz as Perri confidently croons like a slightly tougher Sara Bareilles. Her voice inflects with slightly raspier tones on the standout tune “Black + Blue” where a lazy, twangy, slide-guitar nicely contrasts livelier drumming. The breezy “Daydream” reveals that Perri can sing harmonies as well as anyone else on the pop charts while “Tragedy” shows that she can also pull pretty melodies from a melancholy musing. The best is saved for last with a fleshed out version of “Jar of Hearts.”

Impossible Not to Love

I just keep falling more and more in love with Christina Perri's music. She sings with so much passion and honesty in her lyrics. It's a wonderfully refreshing change from a lot of the watered down stuff on the air waves these days. She's like if Vanessa Carlton and Damien Rice had a love child that hung out with P!nk after her jam sessions with The Beatles. Her voices speaks with an abandonment that says, "Here's my soul - take it or leave it." This EP offers you a ride along her path through the world. I for one will take it.

I have been DYING

To download this album!! I am SO excited to turn it up all the way in the car tomorrow on my way to work. Christina Perri is awesome. So is John Anderson everybody! AND she's fun live too.

I usually don't like pop but..

I would reconsider the genre of this music. This music has a much less mainstream sound to it, which I like. I loveeee how her voice is untouched instead of added with autotune and other voice modifiers. Buy this. I'd say this is about the most "real" pop music gets.

During the summer of 2010, Christina Perri -- a 23-year-old café waitress who'd been moonlighting as an unsigned songwriter -- went from obscurity to the upper reaches of the Billboard charts in two short weeks. The Philadelphia native had moved to Los Angeles several years prior, hoping to spin her musical abilities into a record deal. Her brother, Nick Perri, had found platinum-certified success as the guitarist of Shinedown, but Christina's own efforts weren't met with such luck. She married,...
