I can't say enough about this album! It's amaaaaaaazing. I've been hearing Jamie play live at Crane's in Hollywood for months and am so happy to finally have her CD!!! EVERYONE should own this. Jamie is incredibly talented. Just spectacular.

Fantastic album!

I first heard Jamie Drake at a “Beatles Tribute” at Room 5 Lounge in Los Angeles last October. With dark bangs covering her eyes, and nothing but a ukulele, she slowly began singing “Let It Be”. I immediately set my whiskey down on the bar, turned toward the stage, and was completely enthralled throughout the entire song. I thought, “Who the hell is this? That voice!” Turns out she’s a local singer/songwriter who had been performing at Room 5, Crane’s Tavern, and other local joints quite a bit, I had just not had the good fortune of seeing her yet. That changed, as I saw her several times over the next few months, in addition to singing backup to some of the best songwriters in town…Brian Wright, Brother SAL, Austin Hartley-Leonard, and Sally Jaye. I’ve even had the pleasure of sharing the stage with her quite a few times now.

Over the last year and a half, Jamie has been working on her debut album with producer Dwayne Larring and a strong cast of local musicians. The result is a beautiful 9-song set entitled When I Was Yours. The opener, “Plumbline”, starts things off perfectly with just an acoustic guitar, intimate vocals, slight atmospheric guitars, and a catchy-as-hell chorus that has become a huge singalong at all of her performances. The album continues with the solo acoustic “Could It Be You”, then probably my favorite track, “Losing”, with it’s start-stop rhythm, quirky lyrics, and stuck-in-my-head-all-day chorus. “Beautiful” continues the upbeat pace with it’s huge sweeping chorus, and really starts to show Jamie’s vocal range and power. We then get another intimate, solo acoustic moment with “Enough”, followed by the waltzing “Daydream”, the foot-tapping “Draw Bridge”, and the shuffle of “Being Alone”. Closing out the album is the title track, and not to take anything away from the rest of the album, but Jamie finishes with the strongest performance on here. A grand finale. It’s the kind of moving performance you rarely find in recorded music these days, especially in this genre. It starts as a sweet little acoustic tune for about two minutes, then turns into a repeated lyrical phrase that builds over and over with such emotion, you feel like she probably shed a tear or two on that take. The first time I heard it, I had to ask her if it was a cover. It’s not. And that’s usually a pretty good sign that an up-and-coming singer/songwriter really knows what she’s doing.

Awesome performer!!!

I saw Jamie for the first time at Crane's Tavern. That night she played and sang after she had just flown in from a trip she'd been on. Jamie performed a song she composed on the trip home and her accompanist on guitar who hadn't even seen the music or heard the song joined right in and played with such precision and expertise that I was hooked forever. Jamie is an fantastic singer/songwriter with an amazing sense of humor and this album is a shining example of it. If you're in Hollywood,CA go listen to her live at Crane's Tavern or The Hotel'll be blown away!
