Great foundation!
This album was the turning point in this stretch of Makayla Lynn's career. Before this, she was looked at as a child protégé with immense potential, but on this record she successfully declared herself as an artist who not only has potential to be great, but IS great in the present. With her steady voice and natural sound in the crossroads of Sugarland-like pop-country and the traditional country days of Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. While most would compare her to the likes of Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood, I see her more like a distant Dixie Chick. Her voice is certain, but her songwriting still has the naïveté of a thirteen year old girl who is embarking on possibly becoming one of country's greatest. Her songwriting is believable, but yet also astounding. She's mature, but still has a lot of growing up to do. I'm excited to hear more from Makayla as she makes her descent onto the Canadian country summit. Climbing partners like Shania; you've been warned. Makayla will be reaching the peak of this Everest and she will do so at a young age.
