I wish I could have seen this!

PhilipEngsbergMusic,

I cannot think of many composers I admire more than Maria Schneider. She has a way of bringing out the best in each of her musicians. She has a way of surrounding her soloists to create lush texture and landscapes.

“The Willow,” beautifully crafted for Scott Robinson's playing, slowly transforms from gentle laps to intense crashes. The listener is reminded of a lush lakeside landscape. Her rearm of “The Days of Wine and Roses,” reminiscent of many wonderful arrangements by the late Bob Brookmeyer, presents Tim Reis and Rich Perry in the most outstanding way. I can’t help but smile while their solos fly around Maria’s orchestrations.

Cannot speak highly enough of this. It’s a joy every time I get to listen to it.

Awesome

OrigamiMaster123,

Really good album. My favorite song is Bird Count!

About Maria Schneider

Maria Schneider is widely thought of as a potentially great arranger who is following in the footsteps of Gil Evans (her main inspiration), George Russell, and Bob Brookmeyer. After extensive musical study, Schneider moved to New York in 1985 and from 1985-1988 was an assistant to Gil Evans. She has since conducted her music with a variety of European radio orchestras, written for the Mel Lewis big band, and received many commissions. Schneider's highly original music often falls between avant-garde jazz and modern classical. ~ Scott Yanow
