Classic Scottish Band

This band could've gone all the way. If you want to reminisce on what might have been for this band, then put this album on. The music mixes optimism, sentiment, and longing, all wrapped up in a quintessentially Scottish demeanor. A working-class undertone to it, the music isn't rough, but refined with a depth and texture with a lyricism that tells stories (Dignity), is upbeat (Real Gone Kid), and profound (My America). You'll want to roll down the windows and crank up the volume with Wages Day. A great Scottish band from the 80s that never found the recognition they deserved.

classic Glasgow

If you grew up in West of Scotland in the late 80's to early 90's and have spent the time since on another continent, then this album will transport you instantly back (in a good way). The depth of feeling conveyed in Dignity balancing working class realism with optmism and the unabashed popiness of Real Gone Kid are quintessentially Glasgow. Why Deacon Blue never received more breadth of recognition is a mystery.


Stumbling out of the pub in Camden Town singing 'Dignity' at full volume. We sounded dreadful. We loved it. A wonderful, wonderful band.

Formed in 1985, the group performed its first concert as the opening act for the Waterboys' premier show in England.
