Editors’ Notes

On their third album, Danish duo the Raveonettes continue pulling and stretching their Phil-Spector-meets-Jesus-and-Mary-Chain sound into new shapes and directions. A gritty, discordant feel reverberates throughout, echoing the theme of the tracks here (yep, lust and forbidden desire; good guess), even when vocalist Sharin Foo is cooing her way through a song as if violins and cellos were her musical backing. The two aimed for a heavier sound than 2005’s Pretty in Black, and they serve it up in heaping mounds here. Songs like “Black Satin,” the retro-pop “Dead Sound,” and the addicting and frothy “You Want the Candy” easily recall early JAMC, with ear-splitting shards of distortion giving way to airy, glistening guitar notes and Foo’s angelic vocals. Tracks like “Aly, Walk With Me” and “Lust” move at a sensuous, undulant pace, punctuated with Sune Rose Wagner’s reverb-warped guitar and occasional barbs of metallic noise. Overall, Lust, Lust, Lust is where raunch meets cotton candy, and that’s a combination that’s hard to turn down!

Customer Reviews

I lust for the Raveonettes!

Once again the Raveonettes have given us an amazing album. Each of their CDs play like soundtracks to certain times in my life. There is something about their sound that I just get lost in. It is edgy and rough, while being sweet and romantic. Basically I love everything that they release.

Like grit with a melody?

Grit. Melodies. 3 chords +. Club sound. Raveonettes shine on Lust Lust Lust. This has a super-gritty sound with background melodies and that 3-chord + sound they are known for. Personally I prefer their less gritty sound on past efforts but the songs themselves and music are excellent, you feel as if you're in the club listening to them play live. I first ran across the Raveonettes with Love in a Trashcan. Glad I did! Buy this album and get a 15th song bonus track too!

Solid Distortion

Taking note from Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine, The Raveonettes have made a solid album. Using Distortion on everysong to get their work a dirty and harsh sound, and using alluring vocal, The Raveonettes made their best album yet.

Formed: 1998 in Copenhagen, Denmark

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Combining the noisy swells of the Jesus and Mary Chain with melodic elements of '50s rock & roll, the Raveonettes formed in Copenhagen during 2001. Guitarist Sune Rose Wagner had tried assembling a band for several years, traveling between New York City, Las Vegas, Hollywood, and an island outside of Seattle in his search for like-minded musicians. A longtime fan of Bob Dylan, he also prized the songwriting of Buddy Holly, the harmonies of the Everly Brothers, and the guitar work of Mark Knopfler,...
