iTunes Review

The sixth studio album from the Chicopee, Mass., deathcore band The Acacia Strain opens like the start of a horror film. Following dialogue of a woman calling a police dispatcher to say in shock, “I killed everyone,” the opening “Doomblade” plays like a death-metal typhoon as a haunting ambience swirls through a pummeling rhythm section and guitars blasting short, distorted riffs that sound like wartime munitions. Kevin Boutot’s drumming in “Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow” plays like a well-oiled juggernaut firing on all cylinders, while Vincent Bennett shreds the life from his larynx as though he’s involved in some kind of self-performed exorcism. At one point it sounds like Bennett’s voice is so mutilated that it only makes sense to get Crowbar's Kirk Windstein to lend his equally demonic voice in the following “Go to Sleep.” There he howls with a feral abandon, sounding inspired by Al Jourgensen on Ministry's The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste. The standout cut “The Mouth of the River” drops sonic hammers with more ferocity than any of the band’s preceding recordings.

Awesome

The intro to Doomblade is so legit.

I regret buying this album.

I love this band but you could not convince me this album is a solid effort. Every song sounds pretty much the same, the vocals are boring, drawn out and monotonous. Almost as boring as the riffs throughout the record. They should rename this album "background noise" because that's the only purpose it will serve you.

Awesome

I completely agree. So stoked for this.
