Tap Bar Fun

This album is a personal favorite for me. It reminds of the good ol' days when the duo were still known as "Joe and Marco" and they used to play a weekly gig at the knitting factory. A lot of classics on this which I have not heard the duo play since the summer of '02, such as "Raindrops Whisper Words" and "My Jackhammer" (written by Marco's piano teacher (don't ask me how I know this)). Both improvs are high energy and "Sabia" is a beautiful song. It might take a new listener some getting used to, since their current sound is so different. Also, Marco used to put his B3 through all kinds of effects pedals, which create a pretty far out sound. Recommended to anyone who will give this album a serious listen.

Necessity can be an interesting motivator. Offered a slot at the famed New York venue the Knitting Factory, drummer Joe Russo roped in old friend and multi-instrumentalist and keyboardist Marco Benevento, and the Benevento Russo Duo was born. Since no songs were written for their initial gig, the Duo (as they were sometimes referred to as) began as a sort of indie rock jam band that occasionally drifted off into Led Zeppelin riffs.
