Interesting classical feel

The Rentals sound is definitely mature in this album. I feel a definite similarity to the tones in Matt's self titled solo project. I like that Chipman is really showcasing her classical composing abilities here. I think it is cool how pretty much every Rentals album starts a completely different era sound wise. I dunno too many bands that can reinvent this much and stay classy at the same time.

Songs About Time

This album is filled with songs that accompanied films from the Films About Weeks series The Rentals released on their website and in the Limited Edition of Songs About Time, a project that spanned all of 2009.

If you weren't able to catch any of these songs, get this. Defiantly not your usual Rentals album.

Best one yet

Even though this is all instrumental, this album is beautiful. It's by far my favorite album by The Rentals, it's also my favorite instrumental album ever. The way the whole album is laid out is perfect, the flow is great, there isnt a song I skip. The brevity to the songs are great, they don't overdo anything, it's almost like pop instrumentals. I remember listening to this album on repeat during a road trip.

The strings are great, they take the songs to a level of such intensity. I hope to see more music like this from The Rentals in the future. The melodies have these hooks that get stuck in your head, and you'll hum them all day. If Matt Sharp could put music out like this with vocals, I'd love to hear that, rather than his overuse of annoying synthesizers. Keeping it simple and not cheesy is exactly what Matt needs to do.

This is really great, keep up the good work.
