iTunes Review

After albums steeped in metalcore and more rootsy, swampy metal, He Is Legend’s 2009 studio album sounds more hard-rock driven than any of their preceding works. “Dicephalous” leads off with a ‘90s sounding intro as guitars drone, a fretless bass solos and then the song firecrackers into punch-throwing rawk before the throaty Schuylar Croom comes in crooning like a young James Hetfield. “Everyone I Know Has Fangs” erupts with a pummeling, punk- inspired verse that slams into grappling hooks of post-grunge melody in the chorus that sound as catchy as a Foo Fighters hit. Gears shift down as mellow guitar delay ushers in sludgy, mammoth riffs on “The Primarily Blues,” a soaring space rocker with a radio- friendly chorus that recalls Reload-era Metallica. And the guitars that begin “Future’s Bright Man” flirt with dated shoegazer effects before snapping into an Alice In Chains-esque grime that would well accompany televised cage fighting. Though they’re still stylistically finding their footing, with It Hates You, He Is Legend sounds consistent in their chemistry and relentless in their rocking.

Am i the only one hearing that ANNOYING CLIPPING SOUND in the background of most the songs? Don't get me wrong He Is Legend is one of my favorite bands ever, but i want my money back if the sound quality's CRAP.

The legend boys are always reinventing.....

I don't know how they do it. With every new album(this their 4th), they change their sound dramatically. Even to the point Schuylar Croom(vox) trying a new style or vocal effect almost every time. Attempting this kind of radical change in any genre, is a bold move that tends to alienate a lot of fans. Yet, somehow they continue to succeed in creating a fresh and powerful dynamic that blows the listener away with each album they have released. I'm not sure why this band isn't huge by now, I guess people just like to be bored by stale, predicatable screamo or rehashed warped tour style "punk". He Is Legend have amazing energy live, and this album does a good job capturing their brand of teetering on the edge of chaos sound. Steve might be the best drummer of all time, and this album doesn't quite showcase all that he can do live, but it's enough to be good for an eargasm. "It Hates You" is a huge sound and release of energy that is sure to bounce in your skull for the next few decades. Be sure to check out "The Primarily Blues", "Don't Touch That Dial", and "Future's Bright Man". All these tracks are amazingly melodic and a pseudo return to the brilliance of their "I Am Hollywood" era.

i dont like this anymore, bring back the sound of i am hollywood!!

North Carolina post-hardcore act He Is Legend may have taken their name from Richard Matheson's vampire horror classic I Am Legend (the inspiration for the cult film The Omega Man, among others), but the band's take on screamo is more positive than most groups, so much that they regularly deflect the idea that He Is Legend is a Christian rock band, particularly endemic among those who misunderstand the derivation of the name. He Is Legend formed in 2000, as its members were graduating from high school...
