Cross this feisty Melbourne singer/songwriter at your own risk, she may immortalize you in song. On her second album, Pool takes listeners on a guided tour of misery flecked with moments of melancholic clarity. Songs like “Love, She Loves Me” and “Southern Nightshade” showcases Pool’s bewitching voice, rippling with raw emotion, reminiscent of Kristin Hersh, Liz Phair and Joni Mitchell.

Mind blown

Adamnewmanmusic,

I happened to walk into a Nashville bar back in 2012 where an Australian songwriter weekend was taking place. It was a totally average day until a girl took the stage and talked about a song she'd recently written called "Henry". She then launched into the song and the day became anything but average. I was mesmerized. I wanted to hear the song again. Immediately. Unfortunately, she told me I'd have to wait as her debut album was months from being released. I kept checking for it month to month and finally saw that The Hurting Scene was available. The album blew me away. Fast forward to a few days ago. While looking around iTunes, I saw a section called "your artists". I almost screamed when I saw that a new Melody Pool album was available for pre-order and I did so immediately. Was it possible for her to have gotten even better? What would she sound like 3 years later? Halfway into 'Love,She Loves Me', my mind was already tripping over itself. Not only had she refined her craft, she had broadened her musical palette in order to become even more powerful and visceral. It's a rare artist who can do that...Melody Pool is one of the best songwriters I've ever heard and just on the eve of her 2nd album, already belongs up there with the likes of Joni, Neil, Leonard and the rest of the greats. If she doesn't become a global sensation, the world will have lost out on some of the greatest songs of our time. She's THAT good and is a huge inspiration to a songwriter like myself. But this album immediately. I promise you won't be disappointed. If you are, you're probably a robot.

Disappointing

alright already,

I bought Melody's first album a month ago and I love it. So I bought this one without really sampling it, and I'm quite disappointed. This album is over dramatic, over produced and nothing like the mostly acoustic beauty of her debut album. It sounds like a completely different artist.

About Melody Pool

An Australian singer and songwriter whose songs are in the melodic pop-folk confessional vein of California songwriters Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne, Melody Pool was raised in Kurri Kurri, New South Wales. She crowd-funded her independently released debut album, The Hurting Scene, which was recorded in Nashville with producers Jace Everett and Brad Jones. The album garnered critical acclaim, and Pool consequently signed with Mushroom Music Publishing and Liberation Music, which re-released The Hurting Scene in July of 2013. ~ Steve Leggett
