iTunes Review

This was the first album Muddy Waters cut on Columbia's new Blue Sky imprint. With blues-rock firebrand Johnny Winters producing, the sexagenarian blues legend experienced an exhilarating artistic (and commercial) rebirth. All the players were part of Muddy's road band except for Winter, who pared down his signature speed-demon style to the bare essentials. By turns both brash and authoritative, Muddy and company kick up a storm straight out of the gate with a slashing, stomping take on Waters' classic "Mannish Boy" that rivals his original version, and things don't let up for an instant from there on.

Pure Groove

This album rocks from beginning to end. Guitars are stinging, drums are rolling and shuffling, bass is thumping, harmonica is wailing, and Muddy's voice is just perfect to pull it all together. Johnny Winter even adds some howls. This had to be recorded in 1 take. No dubs, etc. Just the way it ought to be. A bunch of guys having a good time and laying it out. A+!

Pure Blues

Anyone who wants to hear and feel what Blues is all about this is the album you need to buy. From the pronoucement of confidence of Mannish Boy to the lament of Bus Driver, Muddy Waters is the blues personified and this album is a must not only for the fan of the Blues but for music in general

Hard Again

When Johnny Winters told Muddy Waters his idea of getting some of the top names in Blues together to make this album, Muddy said that made him "hard again." For any lover of rock and/or blues this album is a must have. I have way over 60 days of music on my IPod but this one tops them all. Muddy's music inspired Mick Jagger so much he named his band after one of Muddy's songs. The magazine by the same name is from this song as well. My special thanks to Johnny Winters for seeing the greatness of the man and his music and giving him this chance to show the world. If you don't buy any other blues or rock albums, buy this one.

Muddy Waters was the single most important artist to emerge in post-war American blues. A peerless singer, a gifted songwriter, an able guitarist, and leader of one of the strongest bands in the genre (which became a proving ground for a number of musicians who would become legends in their own right), Waters absorbed the influences of rural blues from the Deep South and moved them uptown, injecting his music with a fierce, electric energy and helping pioneer the Chicago Blues style that would come...
