Return to Yesteryear

Merv de Peyer has accomplished soemthing I believed lost for ever. The snese of what the 60's was all about, music, relationships and just a bit o' sex. Add to it all, melodies and arrangements that I have not heard since Barbara Moore made writing for Music de Wolfe more than just commercial. Just listen to her "Shades & Tones."
I love the light hearted "Call Me Maybe" and the powerful softness of the dark song "Rolling In The Deep." In both cases, the songs take us back to the 60's music now being tagged "Lounge" but was what we were surrounded during the 60's with greats like Shearing, Riddle, 4 Freshmen, and Gary McFarland. The music was jazz, it was pop and it was delicate to the senses and dePeyer kocks every single piece out of the park!
My favorites are "Like Someone In Love," "Heart of Stone" and the visual homage to the civil rights anthem "A Change Is Gonna Come." I knew Wes Montgomery and Dr. Billy Taylor, and I know they would have praised this tribute to the black artists who really paid the "dues."
Finally Miles Davis' "All Blues" is what jazz was to the 60's - Playboy mansion, women with thin frames, heavy eyes and brief skirts. The music defined one's "hip-ness' and Merv De Peyer returns of to those days of yesteryear when beauty was not just an was everything! Superb beyond any expectation!
