NO ORIGINAL CARL SMITH HITS HERE

While I don't claim to be a family member, I know bogus re-recordings when I hear them. The cover photo of Carl is probably about the time these songs were actually recorded, I'm guessing late 1970's. Don't believe the "1962" quoted by iTunes since this CD includes "Deep Water" which was Carl's last Top 10 hit in 1967...and the one here is an even later re-recording anyway. Besides, Carl was still under contract to Columbia in 1962 and the label here [Gusto Records] would rather re-record songs than license originals. And if you're looking for "Time's A-Wastin'", you don't have to spend over $100 for the Carl Smith box set on the BEAR FAMILY label; instead, try the well-known websites that have the words "Tube" or "Space" in them...that's all the hint you're gonna get! Try the "Essential" CD here on iTunes for other original hits.

Smith had a talent for singing smooth ballads which polished the rough edges of hardcore country. Nevertheless, he could sing pure honky tonk with the best of them, and his hardest country was made tougher by the...
