iTunes Editors’ Notes

6 Feet Deep grew out of a partnership between Prince Paul and RZA, two of the most original minds in hip-hop history. The producers linked up when both were facing interference from the record industry—RZA with Wu-Tang and Paul with De La Soul. Gravediggaz was their chance to vent their frustrations. The frequently macabre imagery of 6 Feet Deep may have jumpstarted the horrorcore genre, but songs here like “Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide” and “Diary of a Madman” are more fun, more original, and more expertly crafted than anything that came after.

One of the best rap albums on the market

most people think of RZA as a producer first, rapper second. and really, thats probably good because he hasn't ever really been able to compete with the rest of the clan on the mic, standing next to ODB, GZA, meth, etc. but on this album, he drops verses next to Too Poetic and Frukwon and manages to show them up on occasion, as the highlight of the entire album is RZA's verse on diary of a madman over Prince Paul's haunting and eerie beat. 6 Feet Deep, 2 Cups of Blood, 1-800 Suicide, and my personal favorite Diary of a Madman are the best on the album i believe.

Sure to be a classic

I have no idea why this cd is so unknown...all I know is it's sure to be a classic...a genious work of art. Ahead of its time I guess.

Consumate Wu-Oriented Creativity

Lookit...It was about this time that Wu-Tang was releasing high caliber art all revolving around the Wu's cryptic hyptontic message. Ultimately, the question arises..."What's next?" Fan or no fan, one will wonder if RZA has the creative endurance for expanding the Wu army. This offshoot "Gravediggaz is just that product. The Gravediggaz is more than a probe into horror-rap, which was a popular description of the genre at the time. That term would cheapen or diminish what GRAVEDIGGAZ represented musically and culturally. Im certain only a few had the tolerance for the imagery...or subject matter. This represents a deliberate intellectual choice of crude ultra violence. Cultural attrocities set to crisp production. If "Clockwork Orange" or "Nosferatu" were urban oriented...then you would have an idea what GRAVEDIGGAZ were creating. Take a listen and just try not to be seduced. RZA is the musical equal to Lovecraft.

Biography

Formed: 1993

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Gravediggaz's violent mixture of hardcore gangsta rap and heavy metal was labeled "horrorcore" by some in the press. The whole incident is somewhat ironic, considering the heritage of the group. The mastermind of the group, the Undertaker, is better known as Stetsasonic's Prince Paul (born Paul Huston), who has produced De La Soul among other alternative hip-hop groups. The other members include the Rzarector (RZA of Wu-Tang Clan), the Grym Reaper (Poetic), and the Gatekeeper (Frukwan; born Arnold...
