Album Review

You would never guess from Kenny Wayne Shepherd's fiery playing that the guitarist is still only in his teens. On his debut, Ledbetter Heights, Shepherd burns through a set of rather generic blues-rock ravers that are made special by his exceptional technique. It may still be a while before he says something original, but he plays with style, energy, and dedication, which is more than enough for a debut album.

Shame, Shame, Shame!

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Ledbetter Heights

Kenny Wayne Shepherd came out with this CD way back in 1995. He was very young at the time that we saw him live at the Round House in historic Savannah, Ga. Shepherd absolutely blew me away with his style of playing. Raw old school blues with Kenny not singing on any of the tracks, he let's the guitar sing through the notes. Savannah is a small town and it was nice to see him play live. His style is a lot like Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Tab Benoit - Best track is "I'm Leaving You" - Deja Voodoo is also great. If you like the blues then add this to your collection!

Shepherd was born June 12, 1977, in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Shreveport native began playing at age seven, figuring out Muddy Waters licks from his father's record collection (he has never taken a formal lesson). At age 13, he...
