I'm a little confused

I don't want to sound like the typical "church folk" that ppl tend to sterotype when speaking about the Lord. Especially sense I haven't been to church in over 6 mos, but I will say this. Loving and serving God is a real thing and being committed and being a shepard of his flock is serious. The music I heard today was contridictary, to what he is suppose to be teaching the ppl of God. I agree, one shouldn't play church nor ride the fence. I find nothing wrong with being a christian and listening to R&B music, but the lyrics to some of his songs go against what the Word says and he's treading on dangerous ground. I do not want to discount that ppl are human and we don't know what his personal walk is with the Lord, but promoting what he is with his music and preaching in the pulpit at the same time is an insult. Whatever this man is going through, I am going to keep him in my prayers and not judge him.

Review the Music, Don't Project Your Own Issues

I wish more people writing their "reviews" would stop projecting their own issues onto this man and actually review the music.

That said, I think the album is good and definitely a step up from when he was only riffing on every other style he liked on some previous albums/tracks (Prince or Janet Jackson, for example. The narratives in his music are far from unique, but they are interesting to listen to as an artist who is finding his true musical voice as opposed to many other (talented) singers who have settled into predictable grooves far too early in their careers.

As a complete album, it doesn't hang together cohesively, but their are several good tracks ("Incense & Candles" and "Dancin" are two examples) that are polished and show Tonex's potential.

I agree with the fact that tonex is incredibly talented. God gave him that talent for blessing others. But God also does not want someone lukewarm. You can't be both. Singing about steaming up the windows one min and then about how God wont fail you. It's just not right. I know he's been hurt by a lot of Christians in his personal life from what i've read.. but this album was not a step in a positive direction in my opinion. He needs to be either Christian or not.

Born: May 16, 1975

Genre: Christian & Gospel

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Singer/songwriter, producer, and youth leader Tonex was unafraid to rock the waves in contemporary Christian music, for his musical antics have been compared to the likes of Prince. His brash combination of gospel and R&B was first introduced on the Verity Records compilation WOW Gospel 2000. In September 2000, Tonex made his solo debut...
