Editors’ Notes

Like many of their fellow Seattle hip-hop groups, Knowmads are big in their hometown and largely unknown outside of it. On The Knewbook, they link up with guests like Ras Kass, Smoke DZA, and Devin the Dude's crew Coughee Brothaz, plus local players including Chev, Real Rodgers, Tsedey, and Tai-Loon. Lyrically they sound off about hip-hop, self-improvement, real-life relationships, and making music for the people. The production is primarily on the mellow, slow-to-midtempo tip, with chill samples and occasional live instrumentation lacing the chunky boom-bap beats. It's stylistically similar to other Seattle cats like Grynch and Blue Scholars. If you're down with low-BPM "positive" rap, this is totally for you. Standout selections include "Grow," "Work," and "Destiny."
