A Rare Gem

This EP was originally only available in the 4AD EP and singles box set. It was unfortunately missing from “Lullabies to Violaine.” Fans of their 1985-1986 era will definitely have to but this. The instrumental version of “Oomingmak” is hypnotic and beautiful. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, Classic Cocteau Twins

If you are a Cocteau Twins fan, this is a must-own. Unless you have the 10 CD single box set, you may not know these tracks (they are oddly absent from the Lullabies to Violaine volumes as mentioned). Dials is gorgeous, and would have been right at home on Victorialand. There just isn't anyone making music like this anymore.

Not just for the hard core fan.

You might think that this being the "bonus of unreleased extras cd" this would be for the hard core Cocteau Twins fan only. But no! Highly recommended to anyone even mildly interested. What better way to experiment? This is a steal for $3.96. The original box set went for $60.00, and is now going for much more.

That being said, it's also not the "Cocteau Twins Box Set" as titled here, but only that one extra cd ep that came only with the Box Set. This is unfortunate, as the mastering here is far superior to the later "Lullabies to Violaine " cd ep compilation - which is an atrocity of harsh, buzz-cut, loud, clipped and squashed dynamics mess. Imagine a beautiful origami being stepped on and ground into the cement.

Fortunately, this one has not suffered that torture and sounds wonderful. So grab this one while you can, before it too is destroyed by Robin Guthrie's bad hearing and egocentric remastering brutality.

And if you ever come across the other UNREMASTERED cd eps from this box set - grab them.

Formed: 1979 in Grangemouth, Scotland

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

A group whose distinctly ethereal and gossamer sound virtually defined the enigmatic image of the record label 4AD, Cocteau Twins were founded in Grangemouth, Scotland, in 1979. Taking their name from an obscure song from fellow Scots Simple Minds, the Cocteaus were originally formed by guitarist Robin Guthrie and bassist Will Heggie and later rounded out by Guthrie's girlfriend Elizabeth Fraser, an utterly unique performer whose swooping, operatic vocals relied less on any recognizable language...
