Album Review

Surprisingly accessible for Napalm Death in places, Diatribes boasts some strong riff writing. The straightforward thrasher "Greed Killing," which opens the album, proves that Napalm Death can crush most any mainstream metal band, but the kings of grindcore are still up to their old tricks. They do sink into clichéd predictability in some spots, but overall, Diatribes is a worthwhile outing.

I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert on the musical genre of Grindcore. I know enough to know that, Napalm Death is most likely the biggest band in the world of Grindcore though. That's why I'm not going to rate it on the same scale as Scum or Grindcore in general, because if I did that, I probably wouldn't even recognize this as the same band.
That being said, I absolutely love the sound of this album! It's heavy as hell and it's very groove-driven, and in that respect, Pantera-like almost (not to say that they were in any way trying to sound like Pantera). Honestly, I love this album. Do I love it as much as I love Scum? No, but I still love how this album sounds. The guitar work is phenomenal and the drumming is amazing. To me, it's just Napalm Death if Napalm Death extracted the punk out of themselves and injected Death Metal and Industrial. Depends on your taste I suppose, but I would recommend this particular album to any fans of Pantera.

Good release!

This album rocks, end of story.

This is The Album! This is it! If you you are looking for the perfect metal/death album, this is it! In my opinion, and I first listened to this right after I graduated high school (12 years ago) I was amazed that I actually heard it! This is what good metal sounds like! Been jamming it for years!

Formed: 1982 in Birmingham, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

The fathers of grindcore, Napalm Death pushed the envelope of metal to new extremes of ear-splitting intensity, rejecting all notions of melody, subtlety, and good taste to forge a brand of sonic assault almost frightening in its merciless brutality. Formed in Ipswich, England in 1982, they trafficked in the usual heavy metal fare for the first few years of their existence, but by the middle of the decade they began to expand their horizons by incorporating elements of hardcore and thrash into the...
