iTunes Review

Nearly 20 years after he first hit the scene with "Deep Cover," the inimitable Snoop Dogg is bigger than ever, dropping hit single after hit single and still finding time to get busy with television and films. Released just a few months before his tenth solo album Malice N Wonderland, I Wanna Rock is something more than a mix-tape but less than an album; either way, it's all Snoop, and it's all good. Guest spots are more limited than usual; most notable collaborators include Ice Cube on "Blasten!!" and classic tough-guy Harvey Keitel on "World of A Gangster." Put together by DJs Whookid, Skee, and Scream, it's loaded with quality Snoop jams. Be sure to check out the smooth funk of "Section 8" and "That's Tha Homie," plus "Gangsta's Life" with Nipsey Hustle and the nod to Slick Rick that is "Ridaman."

Introduced to the world through Dr. Dre's The Chronic, Snoop quickly became the most famous star in rap, partially because of his drawled, laconic rhyming and partially because the violence that his lyrics implied seemed real, especially after he was arrested on charges of being a murder accomplice. The arrest certainly strengthened his myth, and it helped his debut album, 1993's Doggystyle, become the...
