iTunes Editors’ Notes

F.M. Cornog, known as the musical entity East River Pipe, was once a self-proclaimed “Garbagehead,” an alcoholic who would take any mood-altering substance he could find. Those days may be behind him as he took a record company advance and bought a house in the New Jersey suburbs and got a day job working at Home Depot. But behind the orange smock rests a man still not quite at rest. He’s got a car and fallen in love with the highway, but his drug days still haunt him. “Crystal Queen” serenades Crystal Meth. The title track asks, “Prozac or Alcohol?” and asks about caffeine, Percocet, Paxil, Zoloft and Xanax. Elsewhere, “Life Is a Landfill” and “Some Dreams Can Kill You.” It may sound like one long depressing slog, except Cornog doesn’t sing in despairing tones. His drum machine keeps him awake and his guitars and keyboards push him forward into the light. The “Druglife,” where he says “If it comes down to the drugs or you / Baby, we’re through / ‘Cause you’re messing with my druglife,” is past. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t keep reminding himself.

Chuck knows

Wow! I love it. My friend Chuck (the music master) recommended it and, as usual, he's correct. Check it out.

This is great music...

East River Pipe create fantasitc pop jems. Well written, perfectly produced, I wish more people took the time to make music like this. I'm not sure I totally agree with the Yoshimi thing, A couple songs are in that same vien, but Yoshimi is just a rip-off of a rip-off that can go all the way back to the Spacemen 3, so stop comparing it to other music because nobody's really doing anything ground breaking (aside form maybe Dresden Dolls). Just take it for what it is, really welll crafted music. If you like that sort of thing you should really take a listen.

If you know ERP, you love ERP. If you don't, you should.

East River Pipe is the guise of singer/songwriter F.M. Cornog, who began recording his melancholy one-man pop on a Tascam 388 mini-studio in his apartment in Astoria, NY. Born in Suffolk, VA, and raised in Summit, NJ, Cornog followed a difficult childhood with a series of jobs in a carpet warehouse, a greenhouse, and a light bulb factory. After a longstanding bout with alcoholism and an emotional breakdown cost him his job and left him homeless, Cornog hit rock bottom; while sleeping in a Hoboken...
