Gems From the Vault & Fresh Tracks Too!

Yay!!! Gems from the Vault! Just when you think you've heard everything here are a few things no one beyond Gail and the Vaultmeister have played in the UMRK. More Trouble with a new vamp out -- sheer pleasure to hear something "new" from Frank himself. The Gorgeous Inca solo is just that -- gorgeous precious and sweet. Ancient Armaments is another gem from Halloween. And America the Beautiful closes a show in a way only Frank can. Contributions from Diva and the rest of the family put the emphasis on "for no reason at all..." why not? And it's nice to put Melanie out front after all her work behind the scenes slaving away in the UMRK. A fresh recording of 20 Small Cigars produced by the vaultmeister, Joe Travers, is a delight, and a reminder of how great a jazz composer Frank was. Lacksadaisial, a Travers composition featuring ZPZ players Scheila Gonzalez and Pete Griffin, simply rocks my socks off. Worth every cent, with a little something for everyone. Happy Birthday Frank!

No trouble (every day) with pigs and.or ponies on this release

Hapi Birfdai Frank! I love you and miss you. This release is yet another exampler/sampler of the wonder and marvel that Frank's music holds for all. If you got ears ... you better listen!

An Even More Poignant Lesson...

On the last Birthday Release, Dec. '06, I stated in my review that it's funny to me to see the "fans" flipping out over how crappy that whole scam disc was. Frank woulda found joy in the distress of the self righteous faithful fans. How dare iTunes and ZFT deprive them of their rightful property - quality Zappa music - and foist a less than mediocre trifle on them. Here we are again and this time not so much distress, in fact people are fawning and raving. For music (mucis) that's no more necessary than the last one, I can't image how anyone in any way involved in this affair is anything but ashamed. I like covers of Zappa stuff, but these don't offer anything new or original. Way too similar to Frank's. And the Zappa family has a right to have fun, but c'mon, sell these personal mementos for what they're worth.... not much. Finally, if the Trust and iTunes are not friends then why associate at all? Huh?... You listening to me? I'm talking to you too, Frank...
