Indepentent music that does honor to "Indie" music

Musically, Colby Rampton's album, Disregard, is acoustic guitar based folk-rock, with pop style vocal melodies. Emotionally, the album has fantastic range. Too often albums in this genre are too self conscience and get bogged down by taking themselves too seriously. While Disregard certainly has its share of serious tracks, the album balances its deeply thought and felt songs with a nice smattering of fun, light-hearted songs. I laughed out loud, for example, when I heard the melody in a bridge being carried by kazoos. The songs aren't silly though, they are just confidently fun. And the serious songs aren't overly melancholic or morbid, and have a spiritual quality to them. In his debut album, Disregard, Colby Rampton comes off as a talented, serious singer / song writer who is also happens to be in touch with his inner Muppet. Thankfully, this independent album sounds nothing like a garage band production. In fact, the production quality is astonishing. It allows the material to put its best foot forward and take center stage without calling attention to itself, or making the material sound slick. Some tracks (such as It's Your Eyes, Hide 'N Seek and Hold You Tight) are strong enough to get serious play on pop radio if this album were to ever enter those channels. If you like Howie Day, Damion Rice, or Restless Heart, you will find a lot to like in Colby Rampton's debut album, Disregard. 4.5 / 5 stars.
