Album Review

Those expecting Annie Lennox to come out full-guns-blazing for her solo debut, Diva, with the high energy electro-Europop-meets-American- R&B of her Eurythmics work may be mildly disappointed. The enigmatic vocalist who made a career toying with different notions of gender plays on the concept of fame here — Lennox dresses up in the persona of a solitary Diva trapped by counterfeit glory. Although the music is strangely muted and understated, the framework offers an effective stage for Lennox's husky voice, showcasing her as much more of a chanteuse than in the past. In fact, the album almost works best as one integrated mood piece rather than a collection of individual songs. Lennox succeeds in carving out a personality distinct from her Eurythmics days with Diva.

Passion of Lennox

Where do I start? For anybody who has ever loved, lost...felt anything at all...Annie Lennox has a way of speaking from the heart to the soul. If you listen to this and all you hear is music you need to stop...start it over and listen to her is pure poetry written from the deepest part of the human soul. If in doubt...listen to Cold, Why, Little Bird, and Money Can't Buy It...if you are not truly moved...check your pulse! On a personal note this CD pulled me through a monumental, transitional period in my life. Love you Annie! Keep writing and it will keep changing lives!

Ms Lennox is the real thing

I've had this album/CD for several years, and I still listen to it more often than most others that I have. Annie has a passionate, authentic voice that finds its way to your heart. There's a reason VH1 once rated her as one of the top 10 female pop vocalists of all time. Her voice is original and hers alone, unlike all the blonde teenagers who've polluted the music world with their urban/soul copycat sound. Annie's voice and music are sumptuous treats for the ears. You know right away who you're hearing whenever she sings. She is a singer who possesses the prowess and passion to stand out from the crowd and sound like no one else but herself.

An Album worth much more than the cost..

This tape came out when I was 11 years old, and it changed the way I felt about music forever. It's gotten me through tough times and I can still listen to and appreciate not just the album as a whole, but each individual song because there's one for every mood/feeling. Annie is the best...she used to be my teenage idol! I've upgraded to the CD, and when that's worn I'll move to iTunes. Buy the whole thing! Worth every penny.

Following the disbandment of Eurythmics in 1991, vocalist Annie Lennox began a solo career that rivaled Eurythmics' in terms of crossover popularity. Born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland, Lennox began playing music as child, learning how to play both the piano and flute. In her late teens, she won a scholarship to London's Royal Academy of Music, but she dropped out before she took her finals. For the next several years, she worked around London, performing various jobs during the day and singing...
