iTunes Review

Awesome Color are a Michigan rock trio who have artfully high-jacked the tripped out power trio aesthetic of late ‘60s bands like Cream and Blue Cheer, and dragged it into the twenty-first century with wild and irreverent energy, canny songwriting skills, and a healthy dose of ear-shredding guitar work. The group is in the enviable position of having been tapped by indie rock luminary Thurston Moore for a spot on the small but prestigious Ecstatic Peace label, allowing them to develop their artistic aesthetic and their fan base at their own unhurried pace. Awesome Color’s sophomore record Electric Aborigine shows the band slowly but surely tightening the multi-hued, but sometimes meandering psych-rock of their debut into tight pop-friendly songs. Whereas the songs on X often focused on the appeal of a tricky riff or far out guitar tone, Electric Aborigine is full of uncanny melodic twists and momentum building arrangements that find the group sounding like hardened veterans rather than absolute beginners. An entire season of touring behind fuzz drenched rock godfathers Dinosaur Jr. seems to have done the band a world of good, making Electric Aborigine their strongest offering yet.

So Killer!

This album rips! Even better than the last! Stoner, psych, metal, punk- whatever you wanna call this, it rules!

Tired of the same old, same old that was passing for N.Y.C. underground punk at the time, the trio set out to inject a little Detroit rock know-how into the tired scene. Succeeding marvelously at channeling the grit and free abandon of...
