Roger... Talking Legend

Yo, if you're reading this you already know so I'm not puttin you up on some new noise... Roger Troutman aka ROGER is the funkiest cat to come out since James Brown in the 60's, straight up... on the real. In case you don't know this is the cat frontin' all the Zapp jams as well starting with the classic "More Bounce To The Ounce" copied by Tom Tom Club and a gazillion hip-hoppers thereafter including the king of hop himself, Dr. Dre. Simply put, this EP is but a taste but it gets 5 on the stars if for no other reason than Roger's immortally funky take on the Marvin classic "....Grapevine" you dig? Anyway, like I said, if you're checkin this review then you probably already know but just in case you didn't know... now you know. Take a look at everything this cat has ever done. Particularly the early 80's work with Zapp and a very stellar guest spot with an 80's tech-funk outfit (Scritti Politti) on a song called "Boom... There She Was".

I pretty much have to give this 5 stars... for no other reason than my name is Rodger. Hearing the Women the back up singers sing "do it Roger do it" is 5 stars in my book. It does have a nice groove as well.

What James Jamerson did for the bass, Jimi Hendrix for the guitar, and Stevie Wonder for the harmonica, Troutman did for the talk box. As a member of Zapp, a band that included his brothers Larry, Lester, and Tony, and recording under the solo moniker of Roger, he helped define and give...
