Editors’ Notes

At its best, trance doesn't merely hypnotize; it can also induce states of heightened perception. Tiësto's third album is full of the clean lines and sparkling frequencies of a high-def universe; his propulsive rhythms and intricate synth melodies make the perfect counterpart to night drives through halogen-lit cities and flyovers of alien worlds. 2007’s Elements of Life displays the kind of finesse that’s become harder to find since EDM's big-room explosion of the late '00s. That's particularly true of progressive-house-leaning tunes like "Driving to Heaven" and "Everything," which show off Tiësto's deeper side.

Customer Reviews

Hmm...not so impressed

To be honest, it's not terrible, but it's not what I want to hear from Tiesto. Rated as an album alone, I'd say there are a few standout tracks, and a few shoddy trance tracks...(Ten Seconds Before Sunrise, Driving To Heaven), where Tiesto has tried the ambient tip, and not really succeeded. There is too many club elements in both songs, and an absence of that wonderful industrial sound he seems to, for the most part, have abandoned. Carpe Noctum is nice, but doesn't at all compare to Traffic... The standout tracks are surely Do You Feel Me (where Tiesto nailed the progressive sound on the head), Sweet Things and Elements of Life. Bright Morningstar is a very nice chilled track also... However, trance fans and progressive fans should keep in mind that there is more to electronic music than Tiesto...he hasn't perfected anything nor made any significant production changes that are 100 percent original. If you like this album, check out Gabriel and Dresden, Kuffdam and Plant, Klaas, the list goes on and on... Three and half stars.

Best Trance Album of 2007

Tiesto out did himself on this one. Carpe Noctum (a response to 2004's Traffic) is insane. The build up and the bass kick are absolutely nuts. I'll admit this album takes a while to get into. Most people won't like it the first time they hear it. But After a few listens it'll be your new favorite album. In the Dark, Everything (a dedication to ecstasy), Carpe Noctum, & Bright Morningstar were the first to grab my attention. Now, I like almost every track on the record. I’d love it if "Driving to Heaven" was longer, but all in all, it's a good song. The more you listen to it, the more you'll like it. 5 stars all the way!

Tiesto, Dj of awesomeness

Just when I thought Tiesto couldn't be any more talented, he drops this album. This is one of the only albums that I can play straight through without skipping any songs. I had high expectations when I began listening to Ten Seconds Before Sunrise, and this album delivered. You can do any activity while listening to it, from studying diseases to baking cookies to riding around town. Although all the songs are phenomenal, try Ten Seconds Before Sunrise, Driving to Heaven, In the Dark, Elements of Life, and Break My Fall. If you're new to Tiesto, try He's a Pirate, Lethal Industry, Silence (In Search of Sunrise Remix), Adagio for Strings, and Love Comes Again.
