Editors’ Notes

As its title indicates, Dog & Butterfly is both earthy and ethereal, balancing crunchy rock tracks with billowing, mystically tinged acoustic ballads. Ann Wilson comes on strong in hard-pumping tunes like “Straight On,” “Cook With Fire” and “Hijinx,” unleashing her trademark shivery high notes as the band swelters behind her. “High Time” stands out for its swaggering groove and optimistic lyric. Following these upbeat tracks are a series of atmospheric numbers that show off Heart’s more contemplative side. A sense of personal exploration and poetic reflection runs through “Nada One” and the title song, while “Lighter Touch” is a string-wrapped, slightly grandiose confession of love. Heart wraps up this ambitious song-cycle with “Mistral Wind,” a lyrically vivid narrative that frames Wilson’s yearning voice against a shifting backdrop of serene and stormy textures. Filled with rich instrumental colors and fiery vocal flights, Dog & Butterfly may be Heart’s most unified artistic statement.

Absolutely BEST Heart album

Outright beautiful is the only way to describe this album through and through. But the end is the best, as Ann and Nancy build from the soft serenity of Nada One to the wailing energy of Mistral Wind... the songs after Mistral Wind do not belong on this album, and there's no reason for I-Tunes to have tacked them on.

The BEST Heart Album of all time!

I purchased the LP in 1979 and I love it! Today I wanted to download some tracks for my iPod. I agree withMike Spangler - Mistral Wind IS the last song on the original album, so I was surprised to see 3 songs tacked on here as well. However, I also love the song Heartless, but the original version from the Magazine album, not the version here At any rate, if someone is just starting to know Heart I highly recommend you check out this album - it rocks!

I love this release especially songs like lighter touch , nada one and dog and butterfly. Accoustic guitar I love so much on nada one. Like the other 70's heart releases, this one's a hit for me!

Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson are the creative spark behind Heart, a hard rock group who initially found success in the mid-'70s only to reach greater heights after engineering a major comeback a decade later. The daughters of a Marine Corps captain, Ann (born June 19, 1950) and Nancy (born March 16, 1954) grew up in both Southern California and Taiwan before the Wilson family settled in Seattle, Washington. Throughout their formative years, both were interested in folk and pop music; while Ann never...
