13 Songs, 52 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Doggystyle plays like the sonic equivalent of the night of partying that must inevitably follow The Chronic’s long lazy afternoon of L.A. cruising. Though tracks like the unforgettable “Gin and Juice” and “Doggy Dogg World” provide moments of gleeful levity, Doggystyle often sounds weary. Snoop’s low-key flow and magnetic personality remains the anchor. Get a look at a future rap icon coming into his own.

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.

Some classics

Thanks, Itunes, for getting all of the Death Row catalog. This album is my favorite. It has "Gin & Juice," "What's My Name," "Ain't No Fun," and "Doggy Dogg World." What is not to like about this album? Snoop at his best.

Simply a Classic

With today's commercialization and assimilation of the hip-hop culture in American entertainment, it's sometimes easy to think that a lot of rap today has started to lose it's edge. Snoop Dogg's first hit album, "Doggystyle" is a fresh reminder of how rap can be unique, energetic, and fun. While there are popular songs on this album (most notably: Gin and Juice, Who Am I?, Gz and Hustlas), those songs alone are incomplete with out the rest of the music. This is a spoonful of some of the best tasting music ever to have come out of this genre as well as a glimpse of the beginning of Snoop's incredible career.
