Wish they had recorded more music like this. Their swing and drive is relentless.

Overlooked classic

This set with three monsters of jazz is feisty and fun. It is a refreshing return to a classic jazz format for Hancock, backed by bass master Ron Carter and monster of the skins Tony Williams. While Hancock seemed to be obsessed with funk and electronica in the 1980s, it is nice that he found time for some straight ahead hard bop. Bass, drums and piano from three of the best in the business, horns would only get in the way.
