Lucia di Lammermoor <3

I am 16 years old, and I adore opera. Lucia di Lammermoor was one of the first I ever saw, funny enough, it was with Natalie Dessay too. I was immediately captivated. There are some FABULOUS recordings of Lucia out there, with Sutherland, SIlls and fantastic artists like those, but I am a HUGE Natalie Dessay fan so I really enjoy this recording. I think the other voices match hers quite well, especially Beczala! even though buying this isn't quite the same thing as seeing it, I think this is a great recording, the orchestra is quite spectacular as well. Dessay is in GREAT voice here (though some will argue against this) and sounds great. There is no recording of her Lucia (just Lucie de lammermoor, the French version) so if you are a fan of any of these singers, BUY. or if you are just interested in a Lucia Recording, BUY. Its a good price too.

Bravi to a great cast! And Viva la opera :)

An exceptional cast of soloists alongside Russia's best orchestra!

This recording of Lucia di Lammermoor features a powerful chorus and orchestra that support an exceptional cast of soloists. It also features wonderfully interesting instrumentation, including a glass harmonica! Dessay’s voice rings out with vibrance and energy and is matched by the beautifully controlled singing of Beczala. Their beautifully lilting arias dominate the first act which is in stark contrast to the tragedy that follows. A very convincing recording.

Wow - the best 'mad scene' i've ever heard!

Natalie Dessay has the perfect tone, colour and balance to her voice and this this role fits her like a glove. The casting in general is outstanding and the orchestral playing by the Mariinsky is some of the best i've ever heard. An absolute joy to listen to. Fantastic recording quality as well.

Valery Gergiev emerged in the 1980s as one of the most exciting new conductors, particularly of opera and ballet, and has maintained and enhanced his reputation ever since. He is also known for the rather gruff, unshaven appearance he cultivates. Born in Moscow to Ossetian parents, he showed tremendous musical talent in early childhood. Deciding while still in his teens that he wanted to become a conductor, Gergiev entered the conducting class of Ilya Musin at the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Conservatory....
