Don't Give Up On Us

The Angel and the Dreamer...Whoever they might have been, David Soul got our attention when he sang about them in the latter years of the '70s. I'd like to hear his voice now. I wonder what the innocent, youthful, hopeful voice of the '70s David Soul sounds like today. I think we'd find a different version of Soul, his music, his lyrics and his voice. One that has lived through the loss of innocence and easy adoration and suffered the slings and arrows.
Souls voice recognizes the follies of lost youth, or youth lost to folly. It is far less hopeful now and far better for it.
It is infused with gruff complexities and mellowed with a greater depth. It is finally the voice of understanding and even acceptance.
David Soul was never a lightweight. He could have chosen pro baseball, he didn't. He chose a creative life, the life of a storyteller, the life of an Actor. It came too easily to him, as most things did.

David Soul has emerged from his demons with a singular Grace.

"If all my demons are to leave me
I am afraid my Angels will take flight
as well"
