14 Songs, 1 Hour 3 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Led by the glam-slam party starter “The Bitch Is Back,” this underrated 1974 release takes comforting sonic turns. There’s an acoustic guitar and piano love ballad (“Pinky”), a guitar-driven pop-rock gem (“Grimsby”), a country music spin (“Dixie Lily”), and a cinematic sojourn (“I’ve Seen the Saucers”). “Ticking” is a sobering vocal-piano song about violence, and the album’s centerpiece, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” (which features two Beach Boys on backing vocals), is a betrayed lover’s plea that rises on a bed of exquisite harmonies. Here, Elton tests the era’s rock ’n’ roll boundaries, expertly mixing breakup balladry with mood-setting grandeur and fist-pumping rock.

loved it then,love it now

I remember listening to my mother's Elton John,Caribou album when I was about 10.It really impressed me back then at such a young age just as it does now.I'll have to say that Dixie Lily was my favorite with it's upbeat tempo and wonderful piano playing.Grimsby was close behind as my 2nd favorite .I just downloaded the album and can't wait to burn it on a cd and really have a great time reliving this great album. As I listen to it now,it really makes me smile,Every song is so different from the other. There is alot of wonderful talent here. The first time you hear some of the songs you may think they are a little "different"...but man, oh man,the more you listen to it over and over,it just grows on you.I even thought Solar Prestige A Gammon was neat as a kid.Now I think"what a great imagination" and also musical talent.I'd say if you are an Elton John fan, this album is a pleaser! I love it now at 42 as much as I did at 10.
