Album Review

Like the High School Musical franchise, Glee became more than a TV show when several of its songs cracked the Hot 100, including the number four hit "Don't Stop Believing." That song kicks off this soundtrack, the first in a series of albums cataloging the music performed by the show's cast. Tuneful performances by Mark Salling (who plays Puck) and former boy band member Kevin McHale (the wheelchair-bound Artie) make a good argument for Glee being an ensemble production, but Lea Michele still receives top billing as Rachel Berry, and she sings circles around several of the pop stars whose songs are featured here.

Great Music, but disappointed

I love the show and its music. But I'm upset because I was hoping/expecteing a full length version of sweet caroline and say a little prayer. I was also hoping they would release some of the acafellas songs and jayma mays singing "i could've danced all night".

O well, still good.

Different Editions, Different Songs

I feel badly for chzzz, because I bought my disc at Target and came away with "I Wanna Sex You Up," "I Could Have Danced All Night," and "Leaving on a Jet Plane." I had no idea they were going to have different editions, so I absolutely lucked out-- and at $9.98.

Glee surprised everyone when it frist aired. It was funny, heartwarming, and filled with tons of great music. This album is great. Every song is very different. The casts' voices are great and are each unique and bring something new to the table. I have to give props to the character "Mercedes". She has an absolutely fantastic voice (check out "Somebody to Love"). There are even some guest appearences by Kristin Chenoweth, the orignal Glenda from "Wicked". The only complaint I would have with this album is that not very song from the season is included, but those are still available for purchase on itunes.

If you dont have the money to purcahse the entire album, these songs would be my top picks:
1. Somebody to Love
2. Keep Holding On
3. Taking Chances
4. Bust Your Windows
5. Don't Stop Believing

You might as well buy the whole album to get the full experience. Believe me,it will be a purchase you will never regret!

Formed: 2009 in Hollywood, CA

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

When Glee aired its first episode in May 2009, the TV show only attracted a fraction of the viewers who tuned in for American Idol, which was shown on the same channel just one hour prior. The numbers looked bleak, but Billboard's music charts told a different story the following week, when the Glee version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" became a Top Five hit. Performed during the pilot by the castmates themselves, the song eventually sold over 700,000 downloads and paved the way for Glee's...
