Album Review

Rock Candy Funk Party's 2013 album, We Want Groove, features the crossover ensemble's mix of high-energy funk and atmospheric '70s-influenced soul-jazz. Featured here is the band's regular lineup of drummer and producer Tal Bergman, keyboardist Renato Neto, guitarists Joe Bonamassa and Ron DeJesus, and bassist Mike Merritt. These are organic, often long-form instrumental recordings that straddle the line between rock and jazz., Rovi

AMAZING! After watching the videos online for the last few months I couldn't wait to purchase. As this album is released, he just finished recording the second album with Beth Hart. This is the hardest working musician I know of, and definitely the most genre bending talent out there right now. Having said that, Bonamassa fans should also check out wilsontking's album "last of the analogues."

This is the bonamassa I identify with; more the pocket...soulful. This album plays out like an early 70s Jimmy McGriff album or mid 70s Herbie Hancock, maybe with a bit of Wired era Jeff Beck. The grooves are easy going and don't ask too much of you. You can just veg out and enjoy the ride-unlike his older, flashier albums. An album like this needs its own time of day to fully enjoy; 11am on a Saturday is what this record is all about. Chillin and groovin.

Get your funk out and play with it!!

If you are a fan of Joe Bonamassa and/or artists like Booker T (Green Onions), AWB and Herbie Hancock, you won't be disappointed. Well played throughout.

A jazz-funk fusion revival supergroup, Rock Candy Funk Party grew out of an instrumental album recorded by drummer and producer Tal Bergman and guitarist Ron DeJesus in 2007 called Grooove, Vol. 1. The pair played several subsequent live dates at the Baked Potato jazz club in Los Angeles, and encouraged other musicians to sit in, and gradually Rock Candy Funk Party came together from these live sessions, finally settling on a lineup of Bergman, DeJesus, bassist Mike Merritt, keyboardist Renato Neto,...
