From the depths

Ackles concludes 9 of rock's most poignant, painfully heartfelt ballads with a song of hope, "Be My Friend"--not a cheerful pop confection but a hard-won glimpse of a light at the end of a very long tunnel. "Times change" laments the imprisoned speaker in "Down River" and yet Ackles' honest, uncompromising look at our world is just as essential today as it was in 1968.

One of the 60's best

Ackles is one of my favorite singer/songwriters, and this album is my favorite from him. This artist was one of the few i have experienced where his vocal expression seemed to mirror exactly his downbeat, sometimes comical, and sometimes disturbing lyrics and melodies. Most artists, me included, can not match with their voices all the emotion the lyrics and melody intend. Ackles was able to accomplish this. Wonderful album, sorely underrated. In my top 50 all time.
