Dream Get Together

Dream Get Together

On Citay’s third studio album the band borrows just enough sonic textures from the annals of rock history to cast a layer of déjà vu over a project that’s innovative in its arrangements and ideas. Piano Magic’s Ezra Feinberg teams up again with Tim Green of the F*cking Champs to conduct a large ensemble of multi-faceted musicians from San Francisco’s thriving underground. Dream Get Together plays with huge, panoramic soundscapes of organic tones, astral drones, heavy guitar leads and flowery vocal harmonies. The opening “Careful With That Hat” blends bygone Los Angelino canyon-folk with intergalactic jams à la Hawkwind, while Green rips the sky open with soaring six-string leads — but the whole thing is sewn together with a new machine that lays out unpredictable patterns and designs. “Secret Breakfast” and “Mirror Kisses” could be one epic song as the former sounds like a commune’s campfire orchestra playing an acoustic-based space-rock intro that leads to the latter; a lilting bloom of folky wonder in the spirit of Linda Perhacs and early-‘70s Fleetwood Mac.
