EDITORS’ NOTES

In an era when many country artists are modernizing their sounds, this Texan trio turn their inspirations from the ’70s and ’80s into a warm, organic feel. On this debut EP, Mark Wystrach’s oaky baritone conjures the voices of Keith Whitley and John Anderson on the slow-burning, double-vision anthem “Drinkin’ Problem” and the bittersweet “Burn Out,” while the country rock touches of “This Old Heart” testify to The Eagles’ influence. Wherever they roam, Midland take along plenty of Texas twang.

Bound for greatness.

daniel.fagan7,

I saw these guys at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix when they opened for Willie Nelson. I was very impressed and now very glad to have seen them live. This EP does not disappoint, and is some of my favorite country music from recent times, with "Electric Rodeo" probably being my favorite song of the EP. These guys are gonna go far! I look forward to hearing more!

About Midland

Texan trio Midland fuse elements of smooth '80s country and wistful '70s classic rock with a tuneful pop sensibility. The band formed out of a series of picking sessions at bassist Cameron Duddy's wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming when he, singer Mark Wystrach, and guitarist Jess Carson discovered an immediate musical chemistry. Taking inspiration from the Eagles, Dwight Yoakam, George Strait, and Gary Stewart, the three friends relocated to Texas and recorded a series of tracks at Sonic Ranch Studios that eventually led to a deal with Nashville titans Big Machine Records. Making their label debut in 2016 with a self-titled EP, Midland showcased their warm, harmonic blend and hook-filled songwriting on songs like "Drinkin' Problem" and "Burn Out." ~ Timothy Monger
