Album Review

Doom metal trio Pale Divine follows up 2002's acclaimed Thunder Perfect Mind with a set that ups the production ante (courtesy of knobsman Chris Kozlowski) without losing any of its predecessor's Black Sabbath-meets-Danzig spark. Vocalist/ guitarist Greg Diener's blues-based riffs steer short bursts of energy like "Sins of the Fallen" and "Crimson Tears," but his anti-religiosity wouldn't amount to much without the rhythmic muscle of drummer Darin McCloskey and bassist Jim Corl. The midtempo rumble of "Blind Faith" and the slow, expressive moods of "Solitude" thrive as a collective effort. Fans of the aforementioned, as well as bands like Pentagram, Iron Maiden, and late-model Corrosion of Conformity, will surely raise their die-hard metal horns high in appreciation of Eternity Revealed. ~ John D.
